A. ASSUMING THAT LIBERTY TO BE SAILED TO CONUS FOR REPAIRS. REQUEST
NNSY SEND ELECTRONICS, HULL AND ELECTRICAL REPS TO ASSIST SHIP IN
PREPARING WORK REQUESTS FOR REPAIR OF DAMAGE. PERSONNEL TO REPORT
TAD TO LIBERTY ON OR ABOUT 13 JUNE AT MALTA FOR A PERIOD OF ABOUT ONE
MONTH. PERSONNEL TO RETURN TO CONUS ABOARD LIBERTY IF THEY ARE UNABLE
TO COMPLETE WORK REQUESTED DURING THE APPROXIMATE TWO WEEKS REQUIRED
TO AFFECT TEMPORARY REPAIRS TO RESTORE SHIP TO SEA WORTHINESS. REF
A PERTAINS.
2. COMMANDING OFFICER PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE IS THAT APPROXIMATELY FIVE
MONTHS YARD AVAILABILITY WILL BE REQUIRED TO REPAIR AND/OR REPLACE
DAMAGE EQUIPMENT, CABLE RUNS AND HULL DAMAGE ON A NO OVERTIME
BASIS. TWO POINT FIVE TO THREE MILLION DOLLARS MAY BE REQUIRED.
3. IF PLANS TO CONVERT AGTR TYPES STILL BEING SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED
RECOMMEND LIBERTY CONVERTED SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH REPAIR OF CURRENT
DAMAGE. FINAL DECISION SHOULD NOT BE BASED ON ABOVE ESTIMATED ALONE,
BUT SHOULD BE DEFERRED UNTIL MORE AUTHORITATIVE AND COMPLETE
CALCULATIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.
